Salary: $18.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions.
Vacation: 2 weeks per year
Hours of Work: 32.0-40.0 Hours a week; Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Mixing and kneading dough for various types of Indian bread such as naan, roti, paratha, and bhatura.
  • Rolling out the dough into flatbreads of uniform thickness and size, and shaping them according to the specific type of bread.
  • Using a tandoor (traditional clay oven) or a griddle to bake or cook the bread until it’s fully cooked, soft, and slightly charred in spots for that authentic flavor.
  • Ensuring that the bread meets quality standards in terms of taste, texture, and appearance.
  • Keeping the tandoor or other baking equipment clean and in good working condition.
  • Monitoring and replenishing bread ingredients to ensure continuous availability.
  • Following food safety and hygiene regulations to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Working closely with the kitchen team to coordinate bread preparation with other dishes being served.
  • Occasionally experimenting with new recipes or variations of traditional breads to offer variety to customers.

Specific Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Formal culinary training or a diploma in baking and pastry arts can be advantageous but is not mandatory.
  • Previous experience of 7-12 months in baking or cooking, especially in an Indian cuisine context, commercial kitchen environment is required.
  • Proficiency in baking techniques, including dough preparation, rolling, shaping, and baking methods.
  • Knowledge of various types of Indian bread and their preparation methods.
  • Ability to operate and maintain baking equipment, such as a tandoor or griddle.
