Specialized Painter and Decorator

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling holes and cracks, and applying primers or sealers.
• Remove old paint or coatings using paint removers, blowtorches, sandblasting, or other techniques.
• Repair drywall, plaster, or other surfaces before painting.
• Mix and match paints, stains, and coatings to achieve the desired color and finish.
• Apply paint, wallpaper, decorative coatings, varnishes, or stains using brushes, rollers, spray guns, or other specialized tools.
• Use faux finishing techniques such as marbling, graining, and glazing for decorative effects.
• Create decorative or textured finishes using stencils, sponges, or specialized painting techniques.
• Apply gilding, stenciling, murals, or ornamental designs on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
• Install wall coverings, wallpaper, and vinyl using adhesives and ensuring seamless finishes.
• Operate airless sprayers, electrostatic equipment, and other advanced painting tools.
• Work with scaffolding, ladders, and lifts for painting high surfaces.
• Ensure proper ventilation and use protective gear when working with hazardous materials.
• Advise clients on color selection, finishes, and design trends.
• Provide estimates for painting and decorating projects, including material and labor costs.
• Collaborate with interior designers, architects, and clients to achieve desired aesthetics.
• Plan and schedule painting and decorating tasks to meet project deadlines.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure smooth and uniform finishes.
• Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition.

Employment Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of 7-12 months of experience in specialized painting or decorating is required.
• Knowledge of different painting techniques, coatings, and surface preparation methods.
• Proficiency in working with spray guns, brushes, rollers, and specialized decorating tools.
• The role demands physical tasks, including standing, moving, and working in difficult-to-reach areas for the entire shift. The ability to climb ladders and maintain hand-eye coordination is essential.
• Must be capable of handling weights up to 20 lbs.
• Basic communication skills in English are necessary, with the ability to follow instructions from a supervisor and communicate effectively with customers.
