| Hours of Work: | 30-40 Hours a week; Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week |
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
- Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and other equipment.
- Work on systems for water distribution, waste disposal, and drainage.
- Support with the installation of sinks, toilets, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine the layout of plumbing systems and materials required.
- Understand technical documents and follow specifications under the guidance of a licensed plumber.
- Assist with selecting the appropriate type and size of pipes, fittings, and other plumbing materials.
- Prepare materials for installation by cutting, bending, and threading pipes.
- Assist in diagnosing plumbing problems such as leaks, clogs, or faulty equipment.
- Learn to use various testing equipment and techniques to identify issues in plumbing systems.
- Assist with the maintenance and inspection of existing plumbing systems.
- Learn to identify and repair minor defects or issues in plumbing systems.
- Report progress and issues to the supervising plumber.
Specific Job Requirements
- A minimum of 3-6 months of prior experience in an assisting plumbing role is required.
- Completion of secondary school (high school diploma or equivalent) is required.
- The position requires registration with Skilled Trades Ontario as an apprentice. The candidate must be willing to register and complete a registered apprenticeship program in due course.
- Basic English communication skills required for effective verbal communication with the customers.
