Salary: $36.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable 44 hours of work per week

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Detecting and diagnosing operating problems in frames and steering mechanisms, engines, transmissions, brakes, ignition, axles, fuel systems, engine management systems, suspension systems, electrical/electronic systems, emission control systems and air conditioning/refrigeration systems
  • Support the repair and maintenance of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems (including air brakes), steering, suspension, fuel systems, and exhaust/emission systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, fluid checks, and safety inspections in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in disassembling, repairing, and reassembling vehicle components and assemblies, including engines, clutches, differentials, axles, and drive systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools and computerized equipment to identify faults and support troubleshooting of engine management and electrical systems.
  • Inspect and test vehicle systems and components using standard testing equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform brake inspections and adjustments, including air brake systems, ensuring compliance with provincial safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders as required by company procedures.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized, and ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • Communicate effectively with licensed technicians, regarding vehicle issues, repair progress, and parts requirements.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to support repair and maintenance work.

Specific Job Requirements

  • 1-2 years of hands-on work experience assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of commercial trucks and heavy-duty vehicles is required.
  • Registration in, or eligibility to register in, the Ontario Truck & Coach Technician (310T) Apprenticeship program is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems (including air brakes), suspension systems, and electrical/electronic systems is required.
  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical and electronic issues is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and manufacturer specifications is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are required.
  • Oral/written English language skills with an ability to engage in verbal interactions with the truck operators
