Position:  Telecommunication cable installer
Duration/Type: Full Time
Work Location: Field, in and around the Greater Toronto area
Salary: $34.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to all applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.0 hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Installing and terminating telecommunication cables, such as Cat 5e, Cat 6, fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, and twisted-pair cables. This involves routing cables through buildings, conduits, ceilings or aerial routes.
  • Conducting tests on installed cables to ensure proper functionality and identifying any faults or signal disruptions. Troubleshooting and rectifying issues with cable connections and signal quality.
  • Installing and configuring telecommunications equipment, including switches, routers, modems, and other devices used in the network infrastructure.
  • Communicate with other workers to co-ordinate the preparation & completion of work assignments.
  • Operate computerized testing systems (Fluke DTX1800, OTDR) on lines and equipment, determine the nature, cause and location of failures.
  • Analyze test results and adjust, change or repair switching system, network, associated equipment and software.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • 7-12 months experience in the installation of telecommunication cables including single mode & multi-mode fibre, fusion splicing required.
  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining telecommunications equipment and systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network issues.
  • Proficiency in using telecommunications tools and test equipment, such as cable testers, spectrum analyzers, and network monitoring software.
